We will be using the good ol Freezerburn volunteer platform.
Thank you so much for volunteering for Dino Burn! We cannot wait to co-create this special event with you! Volunteers are the life blood of any Burner event, without them none of this could come together!
The process to sign up this year will be very much the same as signing up to volunteer for Freezer Burn. The Freezer Burn website was developed with easy volunteer management in mind, for all LEA events, and the Dino Burn volunteer coordinator wanted to utilize this important community resource.
Volunteer sign-ups will start May 10 and end June 10. Follow the link below!

Below is information about the various teams we will be recruiting for-
The Department of Public Works (DPW)
DPW is the hardcore group of volunteers who, rain or shine, are building the event from the ground up, and tearing it back down. Throughout the event DPW also tends the infrastructure fuel services and the event power requirements. They are the onsite team with the hammer!
The DPW team ensures the infrastructure of Dino Burn meets the demands of the participants, while still ensuring a safe environment during the event.Upon early entry, DPW volunteers set up the Fraya and build the First Response infrastructure. If you can’t come early, the DPW still has positions for you during and post-event. Tear down on the exodus day requires many hands!
The DPW team needs hard working hands-on volunteers to work in a sometimes fast paced environment. These individuals should be able to proactively solve problems, be self-sufficient yet able to work as a team, and be prepared for manual labour. There are jobs for every type of volunteer, not just heavy labour! Perks may include: Early Entry and first choice of camping spots (within reason), Use of Golf Carts and Radios, and an Extended Exodus departure. The DPW team interacts and works most alongside the Placement, Parking, LNT and Signage teams, but we are there to help anyone who needs us.
Gate/Greeter
The gate and greeter team are combining forces for DIno Burn to bring you a one shop stop for all the event entry needs!
A gate/greeter volunteer is responsible to ensure participants’ tickets and ID are checked, they sign the waiver, the car is looked over for prohibited items, and wrist are bands placed.
If that sounds too business-like we also encourage our gate/greeter volunteers to have virgin burners ring the bell, and have people safely come out of their cars for hugs!
Leave No Trace (LNT)
We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave Dino Burn in a better state than when we found it. What is MOOP? MOOP stands for “ Matter Out Of Place”. It refers to anything not originally found in the environment in which the event took place. MOOP is anything brought to the event such as: litter, glitter, biodegradable matter and even you. EVERYTHING IS MOOP! The LNT team looks after any last and lonely items left after the event. However, LNT is everyone’s responsibility!
Members of this team will help educate participants about strategies for leaving the Fraya in better condition than before we arrived. During exodus, we take some time to visit camps and people to remind them to complete a MOOP sweep, especially of the common areas. In addition, the LNT team will stay as long as needed to conduct a line sweep of the site. We do not anticipate this will take very long on Monday, and volunteers can leave later than the posted event end time. LNT volunteers may also camp an extra night if they wish.
LNT is one of our most important principles and is a critical role for anyone looking to spread the ethos of Burning Man. Picking up garbage (and helping others recognize when they are leaving a trace) is all part of the duties of this fine team. Our LNT team interacts with many participants and can work closely on-site with any team.
Ranger
Similar to the Black Rock Rangers of Burning Man, our Alberta Rangers share a common focus in our role as first responders to conflicts and other situations that may arise at Dino Burn. Our Alberta Rangers prioritize conflict mediation and serve as points of contact for participants, organizers, and outside agencies. We encourage shared responsibility, self-reliance, individual and group accountability as well as the belief that what we do as role models may influence those around us.
Most of the time, Ranger shifts are quite uneventful – walk around, observing, interacting, participating (quite fun actually!). But other times, Rangers may find themselves busy dealing with situations that could range anywhere from helping lost children find their parents to responding to emergencies and helping get appropriate resources to “the scene”.
Rangers serving an Oracle shift are the First Response “nerve center”, managing radio communications and being the central dispatch between all of the Freezer Burn teams on shift. Ranger Oracle is a great way to get involved with the Rangers and not have to spend too much time on your feet!
It’s important to note that our AB Rangers “authority” comes from the trust and respect of the community that we serve. This means that our role is not to enforce rules or punish individuals, but rather to help facilitate communication and resolve conflicts in a peaceful and respectful manner.
We feel that there is a need for dedicated, trained individuals to serve in these roles at Dino Burn, and by providing a visible presence and a safe, neutral space for participants to address issues, our Rangers can help maintain the positive and inclusive atmosphere that makes events like Dino Burn successful.
The Ranger team is typically led by multiple Ranger veterans (or co-leads) that share the responsibilities of putting together the Field Rangers, who walk the event in pairs. As mentioned, Ranger Oracle (who also may work in pairs) is the radio call center and remains at the First Response location. All Ranger volunteers MUST BE SOBER, and should be calm, cool and collected, and have good observational skills. They should be able to communicate effectively and without bias, and offer outside the box (yet rational) problem solving skills. Provided Alberta Ranger or Black Rock Ranger training is required to be a Ranger at Dino Burn. The Rangers work closely with all the Medical, Security and Sanctuary Teams. Placement
The Placement team typically has 2-4 co-leads that share the responsibilities, and a small team of hardcore volunteers for early entry for staking out the city. This requires dedicated individuals that are willing to work (rain or shine) on the early entry day mapping out the physical city. During the event we will be encouraging folks to squish in and once the land is filled- collecting and packing up the staking materials and tooling. Golf cart and radio use during your shift.
